German Industrial Output Gains, Canadian Housing Starts Rise

:au: AUS: The number of Owner Occupied Dwellings rose 5.1%mom in September to 65.5k, better than market expectations of a 3.0% rise, while the number remained flat on a trend basis. The number of dwelling construction commitments rose 2.2% in September on a trend basis to nearly 7k units while on a seasonally adjusted basis the number surged to 8.0%mom. The purchase of new dwellings increased a marginal 0.5%mom, while on a seasonally adjusted basis the number fell 0.6%mom. The value of dwelling commitments was up 4.8%mom in September on a seasonally adjusted basis while it was marginally higher by 0.3% on a trend basis. First-home buyers accounted for 26.1% of dwellings financed in September, up from 24.7% in the previous month.

:de: GER: Industrial Production rose 2.7%mom in September, higher than market expectations of a 1.0% monthly gain but output continued to remain depressed on a year-on-year basis, down nearly 13.0%yoy. Output in manufacturing was up 3.2% over the month in September after having gained 2.1% in August, but down 14.4%yoy. The gain in manufacturing output was led by output of capital goods which surged 5.9%mom following a 1.8% monthly gain in August. Output in the construction sector fell 1.8%mom after having seen a pause in declines in August following four consecutive negative months. Energy production rose a marginal 0.4% over the month in September.

:ca: CAN: Housing Starts rose a s.a.a.r 157.3k in October from a s.a.a.r of 149.3k in the previous month. Urban starts were up 5.2%mom to 139.9k units in October with multiple starts surging 13.8% to 72.6k units, while single starts fell 2.7%mom to 67.3 units. Rural starts were estimated at a s.a.a.r of 17.4k units in October, up from the 16.3k units estimated previously.
